The Preacher’s Wife
Whitney Houston returned to her gospel roots with her third movie and its soundtrack. Duets with her mother Cissy Houston and gospel-legend Shirley Caesar as well as gospel hyms and ballads plus up-tempo-tracks where featured on this album. The album was released on November 26, 1996. Whitney has the longest stay at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums Chart, where “The Preacher’s Wife” soundtrack remained at the top for 26 weeks. The album sold more than 3 million copies in the United States and over 5 million copies worldwide.
The lead single, “I Believe in You and Me”, became a top five hit in the US and was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 40th Grammy Awards, as well as for Best R&B Album. “Step by Step” was another hit single and was the frist singke internationally “My Heart Is Calling” became the soundtrack’s final release.
